Taking Your Toddler to

By Mary Margaret Keaton
Thinking of a Caribbean vacation? The Dutch island
of Aruba might be your place in the sun.
Unspoiled desert wilderness, beautiful beaches,
coral reefs, gorgeous turquoise waters, and a
constant wind that keeps Aruban temperatures idyllic
and bends low the native Divi-Divi tree, symbol of
Aruba.
It also means no worries about your hair! It's going
to have that chic windblown look throughout your
trip!
But is it a good idea to travel to
Aruba
with a toddler?
The
answer rests among your expectations.
Your toddler is going
to
behave like a toddler in Aruba, so you won't be
able to do
a lot of shopping, casino gambling or
snorkeling, unless you plan to hire a bonded
babysitter (available through hotels
and visitor’s centers) or bring along a nanny. But
you will be able to have lovely outings at the beach
and nice relaxing days in parks and playgrounds in
the warm Aruban sun. The calmer pace in Aruba will
make it a nice break for everyone.
Places
for GoBabies®
to Go
Aruba is not a place to be a tourist, necessarily.
It's a great beach vacation, a place to relax. And
the island offers many amenities for families. One
of the beaches, called
Baby
Beach,
(pictured here)
offers a shallow, tranquil lagoon, guarded from the
wind by a break wall. (Beyond that barrier is the
best snorkeling site in
Aruba, with visibility up to 100 ft. when conditions
are right.)
Native Aruban Noris notes, "In Aruba I see many
tourists with young children. As you suggest, we
have the Baby Beach. But I myself prefer
Palm
Island,
where there is more shade and where parents can sit
and play with their children. Also you can see from
the shore beautiful fish swimming in the sea. And it
is a good snorkeling spot, if you like. Daily tours
depart for
Palm Island, where you can have breakfast, lunch and
soft drinks for a package price.”

Also on Aruba, GoBabies will love Butterfly Farm,
filled with colorful butterflies from around the
world.
Another good place for GoBabies is
Renaissance
Island,
reserved for guests at the Renaissance Aruba Hotel.
Noris says this island is very
beautiful and kid-friendly, offering fun
programs for older kids and babysitting for
toddlers.
While
in Aruba, remember sun block and hats for everyone.
The island is located only 12 miles from Venezuela;
that close to the equator, the sunshine is potent.
So, is it a good idea to take your toddler to
Aruba?
Absolutely!
Go with a plan to relax and play together and,
maybe, catch a few romantic moments after the baby
goes to sleep with a room service dinner on the
balcony. During the day, take advantage of the nice
weather, the sunshine and the change of scenery. As
they say in Papiamento, the native island language,
“Ban gasa!”…”Let’s enjoy
Aruba!”
