Travel Tips for Air Travel with Infants
Copyright 1999 GoBabies.com

At both the Academy of Pediatrics and FAA, there is no mention of air travel promoting health problems for a child under 12 months. The biggest risk to baby could be the effects of sudden air turbulence. Bring a car seat! Or check out www.babybair.com for a great device to your baby safe.

Try to synchronize your bottle feeding/nursing with the take-off and landing of the plane. The sucking action will help keep the child's ear passages clear. In between flights take the child out to exercise. Bring a blanket so you can put he/she on the floor. Ask your pediatrician if there is any medicine that would help make the child drowsy if it comes to needing that. Bring books that you can read to him/her. Bring a car seat or check out Baby B'Air in the Market Section under Accessories for a great product to keep your baby safe. Remember that you can check your stroller at the gate and minimize the time you have to carry the child. The airline will have it ready for you when you get off. For those with small infants, many parents use a sling-style child carrier to keep their hands free. Try to get a bulkhead seat. It gives more legroom. Some airlines include a bassinet on the bulkhead seat that makes it easier for a diaper change. The GoBabies Diaper Changing Kits include everything you need to change the child and eliminates having to fumble around the diaper bag. Your fellow passengers will thank you for a quick change. Have fun on the trip!
